Korea 2023 Day 5 & 6: Alpaca Pasture -> Nami Island -> The Garden of Morning Calm -> Myeongdong - > Ramen Convenience Store -> Ikseon-Dong Hanok Village -> Isadong -> Ssamziegil -> Cafe Onion Anguk

Day 5:

Good morning!
We booked a 1-day tour to Alpaca Pasture, Nami Island and Garden of Morning Calm. There is 3 meet up point at 3 different timing and we choose board the bus at 7.45am at Myeongdong. The other 2 timing is 7am at Hongik university and 8am at Dongdaemum.

Too early so have proper breakfast so last night we bought coffee and onigiri rice at the convenient store below our apartment to eat before boarding the bus. (No eating on the bus)

Off we go!

Ordering our lunch while on our way to our first destination.

After 2 hours of bus ride, finally we reach our first destination!

And yes! We are here at the Alpaca World to meet the alpaca!

Operating Hours: 10am - 6pm (Monday to Sunday)

Matilda got herself some Alpaca coins to exchange alpaca food later on and also because the coin is so cute!

The coin is with alpaca too! Good as souvenir if you don't want to use it!

While waiting for the place to open, the tour guide gives us some time to shop in the souvenir store and coffee break at the cafe. Of course we went straight to the cafe for some coffee.

Cafe area empty because most of the people from our tour group went to the souvenir shop.

Coffee time!

Got ourselves some alpaca pancake too! So cute! Taste like any other egglette.

OMG! The alpaca is so cute running towards us!!!

They will come to you if there is food on your hand!

So cuteeee!

Sometimes I wonder can some of them see? Their eyes are cover up by their fur! Haha!

Them fighting to feed that one alpaca!

To be honest, the alpaca looks clean! If you know what I mean, some animal in some of the farm looks very dirty, like they have not bath for many years, but the alpaca here doesn't give the dirty animal feel.

Happy me feeding the alpaca!

This alpaca looks so handsome! Haha!

Who's treat will this alpaca choose?
And its fur cut is so cute!

Once the feeding time is over, the alpaca will go back to their "house" and we are free to roam around.

Saw some duck playing in (or should I say on) the frozen pond!

We went to the food vending machine to change some alpaca food using our alpaca coin!

Even the cup is printed with alpaca!

Gotten the food!

And we walked to the Alpaca house to continue feeding them!

We all are like happy kid feeding the Alpaca!

Trying to multitask by taking a selfie with the alpaca and feeding the alpaca at the same time!

All giving the puppy eye to earn some food.

Where is its eye?

Everyone taking picture with the wording and of course we have to too! No regrets booking a tour to this Alpaca World!

Bringing an Alpaca home with me!

Time for lunch!

Here's a proper menu.

We are having Dak Galbi (spicy stir fry chicken)! Food is served the moment we sat down.

We ordered extra Kimchi Jjigae (kimchi soup),

Doenjang Guk (Soybean paste soup),

and Kimchi Bokkeuumbap (kimchi fried rice)!

Let's dig in!

After a good lunch, we were trying to figure out how do we buy coffee from the coffee machine outside the restaurant and the boss came out wanting to get himself a cup of coffee, he ended up giving the 3 of us free coffee! Although it's instant coffee but it tastes extra nice with the cold whether!

Next, we are going through the Immigration! Wait! What? Immigration? Where are we going?

Nah... we are not leaving Korea yet; we are taking the ferry somewhere!

After a short ferry ride, here we are at Nami Island!

It's actually my second time here but my last visit was 10 years ago!

Let's see how much did the island change!

Haha! Just have to take picture with our flag!

Ok this wording here is new! Of course we need to take picture with it.

Not easy to take picture without photobomb.

Let's continue to explore the island!

Melting snow?

Loving the chill vibe.

I remember this red bean steam bun!

It's only 1000won (=SG$1.05) per bun.

We are just in time for a batch of freshly steamed bun!

Got 1 for each of us!

Still taste good but the only different is the red bean filling is lesser now.

Joyce's jacket... Haha!

Saw on Korean variety show about this traditional snack, so I decided to buy a pack to try.

You can eat it as it is, but you can also BBQ it.
I have tried it, so you don't have to. (if you know what I mean)

Oh hello!

These trees I will say is the trademark of Nami Island. Everyone will take photo of or with these trees!

Of course we need to take picture of the trees!

Oh ya, if you didn't know yet, Nami Island is the place where they shoot the famous Korean drama, Winter Sonata (in 2002)!

I guess hit the bell for good blessing like in the temple?

Nami Island is pet friendly and we saw people walking their rabbit here!

Took the ferry back with 2 fluffy cuties and off we go to the last destination!

Here we are at the last part of the tour and this place is call The Garden of Morning Calm.

Still early so no light up yet.

Christmas vibe in March?

I guess this place is not a popular place to visit so it's basically quite empty here. Nobody photobomb us, so I'm not complaining at all!

Beside our own tour group basically it's quite empty so we went around to take pictures.

We see mirror, we welfie!

Since the lights is not up yet so we went to chill at the cafe while waiting for them to light up the place.

There is toaster in the cafe for us to toast our bread!

Coffee break!

Sitting by the window and enjoy the view.

Finally, the lights are up!

The place looks more colourful now!

Look how empty is this place?

Done exploring the garden! Off we go!

Sun is setting, our day tour comes to an end. Now on the way back to city!

Back to Myeongdong!

A place for Kpop lover!
We are here to help Matilda's niece to get her favorite Kpop group's album.

Operating Hours: (UPDATE) They are currently temporarily closed.

The music store is located above the Natural Republic so after getting the album, we continue to shop for ourselves!

Address: Seoul, South Korea (no detailed address but you can click the link for its actual location)
Operating Hours: (UPDATE) They are permanently closed

Shopping time!

Went to Super Pet to get some treats for my dog!

Operating Hours: 10am - 11pm (Monday to Sunday)

Wanted to have An Dong chicken as dinner but unfortunately, they are already closed.

Basically, shops and restaurant in Myeongdong close quite early, around 9.30pm to 10pm, so we fill our belly with some street food first.

Who else still have not get over the Squid Game yet?
Us!

Stuffing more street food into our belly!

Hotteok (Korean sweet pancake) is one of the local traditional snacks, also one of my favorites! Seems like the price is getting higher now!

How can we not eat Tteokbboki (again) right?

And Joyce is very happy with her king scallop.

Back to our favorite Gamjatang place! Having a 24hours restaurant near your accommodation is the best!

Having a pot of hot Gamjjatang is the best on cold nights!

Look at the pork rib! Yummmmy!

Back to our apartment and here's my loot for my dog again!
Anyway, that's all for the day! Good night!

Day 6:

Good morning!
Saw this cafe/bar near by our apartment. Cute exterior!

The day starts off with a coffee at Coffee Up which is just in front of our apartment.

Operating Hours: 9am - 9pm (Monday to Friday)
                                  8am - 8pm (Saturday and Sunday)

I think most of the people buy takeaway coffee that's why it's empty inside.

Coffee choice but no English menu.

Time for lunch!
Came to the Ramen convenience store to have some Ramen!

Operating Hours: 24hr (Monday to Sunday)

You must be thinking what is so special about this ramen convenience store?
It's actually a DIY store! Nobody in the store to help or to check if you have paid so this place is purely by trust!

First, we choose the ramen we wanted from the kiosk and pay accordingly.

Many kinds of ramen to choose from!

By the way, they only accept card payment, luckily, we loaded some cash into our Namane card.

After payment, go over to the ramen shelves to pick the ramen we paid for.

Next, picked a cooking pot and it's cooking time!

The sides/extra ingredients there are free to add into our ramen!
Wanted to put an egg but too bad it's all taken! Well... no egg then.

Next, bring the pot to the cooking station.
There is instruction on how to use the cooking station.
(press M1 and start and wait for it to boil)

Waiting for our ramen to be cooked.

While waiting, get ourselves some kimchi and radish.

Added a slice of cheese, got ourselves a seat and ready to eat!

All done!
Oh ya, look out for my post it!

After we are done with the ramen, we need to clear our food waste and used pot accordingly.

After lunch, walking over to Ikseon-Dong.

Before that, we drop by a local post office for Matilda to mail out her postcard.

Operating Hours: 9am - 6pm (Monday to Friday)

Thanks to the extra route to the post office, we walk by an alley with many old shops.
Not sure where us this place but it's the same alley as the post office.

There are also many elderly playing chess here.

Got attracted by this Kkwabaegi (Korean traditional twisted doughnut) store, where the people are playing chess. 1000won (=SGD$1.05) each.

Cheers!

Omg! This is so yummy! I regret getting just one!

Pass by a very vintage bookstore.

Adding the filter for more vintage look!

Here we are at the Ikseon-Dong Hanok Village!

Operating Hours: Depend on individual store

Once we walked in, saw the zodiac and horoscope fortune telling gachapon and we just have to join in the fun!

First, we need to exchange coins to use the gachapon machine.

It's a special coin like the Alpaca coin!

Tried the zodiac gachapon first!

And we proceed to the horoscope gachapon!

Hammer provided there for us to use to open our gachapon.

We can return our gachapon to the destinated hole.

Haha! Well... the fortune telling is all in Korean! Thank God for translator app!

The shops here mostly are all in their traditional Hanok (a.k.a traditional Korean house).

There are many shops that do portrait drawing and all draws in different style.

Randomly walked into this cafe, Kafe On, for a tea break.

Operating Hours: Update (They are permanently closed)

Decided to try here because of this big traditional steaming pot, thinking that they might sell some traditional snacks here.

Coffee break time!

Crispy rice crust au lait, something unique that I have never tried before.
To be honest, nothing special, it's like putting the crispy rice into a cup of milk. Haha.

Fruit tea with real fruits was not bad.

Since this place seems to be famous for their Fromage cake so we have to order one to try.
Not bad.

There is a Mi Toast here. I had it in Bangkok last year.

Seems like there is resident staying here too.

Many shops here.

Many unique cafe here!

Wow there is a retro arcade here!

Isn't these machines the same as the current arcade? Or am I that old now?

Shopping time!

Another fortune telling gachapon.
You just need to shake this box and remember the pattern you gotten.

And then you follow the pattern to get your fortune gachapon.

Taking picture outside a restaurant because of its Hanok look.

There are many shops inside this Hanok, mainly clothes.

Curious about the salt pond but later on we found out its a famous bakery that sells salted bread.
We only found out its famous after we are back to Singapore! Too late, I guess? Haha!

Got myself a candle at this tiffany blue store (don't know what's the name of this store)!

From Ikseong-Dong, we walked over to Isadong.

Joyce wanted to make her own traditional stamp, so we just walk in one of the stamp shops to get.

Operating Hours: 10am - 8pm (Monday to Sunday)

Many design to choose from.

100% handcrafted!
I had mine done many years ago from a flea market!

Beautiful brush!

Went into Ssamziegil, one of the malls in Insadong.

My advice is to take the lift up to the top level and slowly shop your way down (no climbing of stairs needed).

Toilet bowl with "poop" outside of the lift because there is a poop cafe beside the lift.

Got ourselves a cup of Sikhye (Korean sweet rice drink).

And a poop shaped pancake.

Again gachapon!
I think it's the current trend in Korea.

Same, the fortune reading only in Korean.

Got myself another candle from this shop call Kodo.

Operating Hours: 10.30am - 8.30pm (Monday to Sunday)

Joyce and Matilda customizing their luggage tags with the cute patches.

Next, we went to this mall call Anyoung Imsadong.

Operating Hours: 10am - 10pm (Monday to Sunday)

I guess this mall is considered new since it was not here the last time I'm here.

Didn't get anything from this mall anyway.

Nice weather and let's walk to our next destination!

Here we are at one of the famous cafes, Cafe Onion (Anguk)!

Operating Hours: 7am - 10pm (Monday to Friday)
9am - 10pm (Saturday and Sunday)

Nice Hanok style!

I always see there is long queue in this cafe but it's not as crowded as we thought.
I guess it's best not to visit in the morning?

Sweet chestnut bread looks good, so we got this and one of the chocolate buns behind!

Found ourselves a table.

Coffee was ok.

Sky is getting dark!

Took the metro to Myeongdong.
Saw this big Nike store and wanted to check out their customize patches product.

This is the customize patches but the staff here is very rude and with very bad attitude, so we decided to just walk away without purchasing.

It's dinner time! Our usual dinner place if we are at Myeongdong, definitely have to be Andong Jjimdak! So far, I only know Myeongdong have Andong Jjimdak so I guess this is the only outlet.

Operating Hours: 11am - 10pm (Monday to Sunday)

The menu.

Our yummy Jjimdak is here!

So crowded even though it's almost 10pm.

Saw many people queuing up for this currency exchange machine so we are curious on the exchange rate.
But the exchange rate is quite bad so not worth to change using the machine. If you need to exchange currency, it's best to go to the money changer located in different part of Myeongdong.

Back to apartment!

Went to the convenient store below our apartment and saw a doggy inside!

My cushion loot today! You must be thinking I must be crazy for buying so many cushion when I only have one face, right? Haha! This is how I actually know which brand are good for me to use in Singapore's warm weather!
Those that are good and suit my skin, I will buy again the next time I visit Korea.
The price range is around SGD$18-$30 depending on the brand.

Anway time to sleep! Good night!
