Tokyo 2019 Day 7 & 8: Tsukiji Fish market -> Ginza -> Asakusa -> Gotokuji Temple

Day 7:

Good morning! Every day we will pass by this little cafe call Cafe Ivy, while walking to the train station and today we decided to check this place out!

Address: 3 Chome-8-10 Honmachi, Shibuya City, Tokyo 151-0071, Japan
Operating hours: 11am - 2.30pm, 3pm - 8pm (Monday to Friday),
11am - 8pm (Saturday & Sunday)

I really love this place! It's very small and cozy! Just an old couple managing the place.

Everything here looks like we have travelled a time machine back to the olden days!

The old couple couldn't speak English, but they do have English menu.

While waiting for our coffee and since the place is empty, time for the camera to work! Haha!

The barista/boss!

Every corner of the cafe seems to have its own story...

It's coffee time!

Off to the next destination!

Attracted by this dried fruits and prune store right before we step into the famous and touristy place, the Tsukiji Fish Market.

Address: 4 Chome-16-2 Tsukiji, Chuo City, Tokyo 104-0045, Japan
Operating hours: Depends on individual store / restaurants

Got myself some of my favorite hawthorn!

Here we are at the Tsukiji Fish Market. Many people come here for fresh sashimi but personally I find this place very touristy, and price can be high too.

Everywhere has long queue so, prepare to queue for a fair bit of time for your lunch!

Many types of roe can be found here!

Many kinds of rice topper (?), not sure what should I call it but it's like seaweed and dried fish flakes with sesame and salt where you sprinkle on top of your rice, or you mix into your rice to make a rice ball. I love getting this every time I come Japan.

The famous white strawberry can be found here!

Not sure if 1000Yen (=SG$12) is consider a rip off price but basically fruits in Japan are never cheap so if you want to try the white strawberry, you can get it.
I'm not a strawberry expert but personally I think the white and red taste the same! Haha!

Dried food store again!

Another roe store!

Siew mai? We came to a fish market and what attract us this this pork siew mai! Haha! We just wanna have some small bites before we find a place to settle our lunch.

For those who wants to try the white strawberry but didn't want to buy the whole box to try, you might consider getting the white strawberry mochi.

If you are not a seafood person, there is meat skewers, but I doubt it will be full enough to treat it as a meal.

Everywhere is having long queue!

So, we went to one without queue.

It seems like most of the restaurant sells similar food. Oh well.. it's fish market, what else can they sell right?

I don't eat raw so I'm glad that they sell cooked fish! To think that there is no queue so the food might not be nice but wrong! The fish is still fresh and yummy!

All kind of sashimi in a bowl! Heaven to people who love sashimi!

Not a sashimi lover? You can try unagi too!

A small plate of roe to share! I regret not getting the whole pack when we pass by the roe store!

Got our caffeine fixed!

Next, Ginza! This area is considering the higher end area (similar to Singapore's Orchard Road or Korea's Gangnam/Apgujeong Road), where you get to find most of the luxury brands here.

Highly recommended by my friend who often travel to Japan so I'm gonna give this mochi at Ginza Akebono a try!
I read that they only start selling their mochi at 2pm while the store actually opens in the morning. Just nice when we reach, its 2pm+ so we get to buy to try.

Operating Hours : 10am - 9pm ( Monday to Saturday )
10am - 8pm ( Sunday )

Ok, I'm not a fan of sweet desserts or snacks but this, the red bean filling is not too sweet, and strawberry is fresh and juicy. We were lucky that there is no queue but if there is queue, I don't time I will get it.

Saw many unique stores here.

A brand that all Singaporean is so familiar with (but if you are in Singapore, don't get this! There are many better brands in Singapore. *Opps*)!

A very big Uniqlo here!

They have more tee shirt design than Singapore's Uniqlo!

Louis Vuitton Pop up in Dover Street Market! Not cheaper than retail but I guess it's just a small space for them to do a pop-up store. They always have different pop up so if you are into luxury or street brand, you can drop by to have a look.

Address: 6 Chome-9-5 Ginza, Chuo City, Tokyo 104-0061, Japan
Operating hours: 11am - 8pm (Monday to Sunday)

There is KitKat cafe in Ginza so we thought of having some drinks and dessert there.

Operating Hours: Permanent closed

Before going up to their cafe, it's their KitKat chocolate area where you can find different flavor of KitKat and there is Japan exclusive KitKat too!

We definitely enjoy taking photo there more than shopping for their chocolate! Haha!

These KitKat are more exclusive, so the price is not the same as what you usually saw in the supermarket ya! It will be definitely more expensive, and it's always pack in a "nicer" box.

The cafe is located at level 2 of the store.

No more seats and also the menu for drinks seems to be quite limited so we decided to give it a miss.

Continue to walk around Ginza a little more before we head to next destination!

So, we are back to Asakusa! We were a little late yesterday when we reach so we thought we shall come back again and earlier so we can pay the respect and also shops around these stalls while it is still open!

Remember to come early if you wanna shop at those stalls here.

Every shine will have the Omikuji!

After visiting a few Shine, we all know what to do!

After visiting the Shine, we went to explore around the neighborhood.

Not sure what this place is but according to the wording, it seems like there is some performance going on inside.

We saw Gong Cha, so we decided to crave in for a cup of bubble tea again! Haha!

Operating Hours: 10.30am - 9pm (Monday to Sunday)

Look at this Asakusa Don Quijou! Let's go!

Operating Hours: 24 Hours

Google for food nearby, trying to find some local food that we have not eaten during this trip yet and saw a soba place. It is located at the residential area, away from the touristy area and I have a feeling that the food there will be good!

The soba place is call 丹 (Dan).

Operating Hours: 5.30pm - 8pm (Tuesday)
                                                                            12pm - 1.30pm, 5.30pm - 8pm (Wednesday to Friday)
                                                                    12pm - 2pm, 5pm - 7pm, 10pm - 2am (Saturday)

Look at their cute logo!

I really love the interior of the restaurant, very vintage and Japanese style!
Mostly locals having their meal inside and this makes me think that we will definitely enjoy the food here!

We are seated at the bar area!

Look at this menu! Even though we do not understand anything, but it was so nicely written (printed)!

And of course, the staff (or maybe chef) pass us the English menu. He only understands very limited English but still very friendly to us!

First Soba noodle for this trip! We ordered 3 different kinds of soba!

The only soup soba that we ordered! Taste good too!

And true enough, the soba is very yummy! No regret walking for a distance for this restaurant!

Since we are seated at the bar table, the chef is always there to help us. After seeing that we had finish our soba, and we have some left-over sauce, he came over to pour some broth in and ask us to drink it. It was a surprise to us because we never had anything like this before in any soba restaurant and most importantly, the cup of "soup" was so good!

After a good dinner, we head back to Shinjuku to meet JP's friend for a drink as it was our last night in Japan!

JP's friend brought us to this Craft Beer Tap.

(Couldn't find the address in Google)

I don't drink so I can't comment much on the taste.

Back to our apartment and time to pack our luggage!
This is my loot for all the snacks! Haha!

And theses are my nonfood loot! Mostly mask and shampoo refills because Singapore doesn't sell refill pack. And the Bifesta make up remover that I use, is like 1/3 of the price in Singapore! So, every time I come to Japan, I would buy 1 year worth of supply or enough till my next trip to Japan!

All packed and time to say good night!

Day 8:

Good morning! Checked out and read to go! We came with 3 luggage but leaving with 6 luggage!
Oops!

Our fight is actually not so early, but our Airbnb host doesn't allow us to leave our luggage at her apartment, so we have to store our luggage at the locker at Shinjuku station.

The locker is actually located below the southeast entrance of the Shinjuku JR station.

It's located beside the Shinjuku Tourist Information center.

First you put your luggage into the empty locker, pull down the locker lever and take note of your locker number.

Then you go to the machine, you select the locker that you place your luggage in.

Then you pay using your IC card (transport card) or you can pay by cash. We choose the biggest one for 1 big and 1 small luggage so it's 700 (= SGD$8.50).

They will then issue you a ticket with a QR code of it. Please keep this ticket with you because you need to scan the QR code to unlock your locker later on.
You can double check that there is no more green light on the locker you used, and it is securely locked.

So, once we put down our luggage, we quickly rush to the Gotokuji Temple again because we wanted to buy the fortune cat back and the previous trip we went, the shop is already close.

Incase you miss out the address for this temple:
Operating Hours: 6am - 6pm (Monday to Sunday)

Guess this Shine is not the popular Shine where it is always flooded with tourist.
I'm not complaining because I love the quietness here!

Pay a respect and we got to go.

Heading to the souvenir store!

We each got 1 cat, and we quickly rush back to Shinjuku station to collection our luggage because we need to rush to the airport as fast as we can.
I have to say the way we rush is not for fainted hearted people as the time we had is really short and we really go all way out just to get the fortune cat (because it was famous in bringing wealth!). Luckily, all the train we took come at the right time, so we need not wait for long.

Anyway, back to Shinjuku to grab our luggage!
So now, go to the screen and choose 'Remove your Baggage'.

Scan your QR code.

And the locker is unlocked. You can proceed to remove your luggage.

While me and JP go collect all the luggage, Kat went to buy The Alley bubble tea which is just located opposite the locker.
We then quickly walk over to the opposite Shinjuku bus interchange to buy our bus ticket to airport.

Follow the sign to the correct waiting area.

We thought everything is on time until we buy this ticket to airport because the early timing tickets was sold out! So, we can only get the next bus timing which is 1 hour later. And again, this travelling style is not for fainted hearted! Haha. But we all know the bus or train timing is Japan is nothing but accurate.

Gotten our bus tickets.

Since we need to wait for our bus, we shall calm down and enjoy our bubble tea. No point panicking because the bus will not come early too.

Bus is coming, the staff again arrange our luggage nicely.

Tickets for all our luggage.

Yes! We made it to the airport in time to check in our luggage before it close because there aren't many people on the bus, so the pit stop at the other terminal is very fast. The staff see us rushing, she quickly come over to help us. Good thing we did a web check in at the bus terminal while waiting for our airport bus.

Ok now we are really going to bid goodbye to Tokyo!

Still have some spare time to shop!

Ready to go home!

And yes, we made it into the plane on time!

Not long after the flight depart, the airline gave us some snacks and water.

Dinner time and there is soba!

Supper before landing!

Back home and first thing to do is to return our Wifi router!

And that's all for this Tokyo trip! Stay tune for next trip!
