I Love Taiwan Day 5 : Wishing lantern at ShiFen, Shopping at Wu Fen Pu and dinner Raohe Night Market

DAY 5 :

Breakfast time! Ah Zhong rice noodle ( 阿宗面线 ) is one of the food that I must have whenever I'm in Taiwan. It nothing special but I just love it!

Big bowl : NT$60 = SG$2.50
Small bowl : NT$45 = SG$1.90

How to go: Xi Men Station, Exit 6, turn to your right at the exit, walk straight till you see a KFC and turn to you right and you will see a lot of people siting at the corridor and there it is.

Heading off to Shi Fen ( 十分 ) after our breakfast. We will be taking the Taiwan Railway ( 台铁 ) train this time round from Taipei to Rui Fang ( 瑞芳 ).
1st, take the MRT to Taipei main station, follow the sign board and you will be able to find the Railway station.

Ticket to Rui Fang is NT$49 ( SG$2 ) and the journey is about 1 hour plus.

We need to wait for a shuttle train so meanwhile we went to Rui Fang old street ( 瑞芳老街 ) to have some cold dessert.

My 2nd time having dessert here! They serve very yummy dessert, both hot and cold.

A very vintage dessert shop.

Hand made bean curd with yam ball, red bean and fresh milk ( choose 2 ingredient) at NT$45 = SG$1.90.

Brown sugar mochi with peanut on it at NT$30 ( SG$1.2 ).

 Crushed ice ( we call it ice kachang ) with grass jelly, mango, yam ball and jelly ( choose 4 ingredient ) at NT$50 = SG$2.10.

Bought the shuttle train ticket from Rui Fang station. The ticket counter is at where we alight just down.

The shuttle train ticket is a one day pass along Ping Xi line ( 平溪 ). The most famous place along this Ping Xi line is Shi Fen, where people put wishing lantern and visit the big waterfall ( 十分大瀑布 ), and Qing Tong ( 青桐 ), for wedding photo shoot and also putting wishing bamboo ( 许愿竹 ).

Tickets are selling at NT$52 = SG$2.20

Here we are at Shi Fen!

 My big ticket to [ Happiness ].

Taking picture in the middle of the railway before the train comes!

There is a lot of shop that sells the wishing lantern ( 天灯 ) but we choose one that got the most people buying from and picture they took are more professional.
Different colour means different wishes so you can choose only 1 colour, 2 colour or 4 colour and of course we choose 4 colour so that we can have 4 different wishes! Haha!
Lantern are selling at NT$100 ( SG$5 ) for 1 colour ( all four side same colour ) and NT$150 ( SG$6.30 ) for 4 colours ( one colour on each side ).

Writing our wishes on the lantern.

Yellow = Money

Blue = Career

Pink = Love

Red = Health

After taking picture with all our wishes, the staff will help us light up the lantern.

And off the lantern go, bringing our wishes along!

Taking the last picture with our flown away lantern request by the staff. ( staff are professional photographer right? )

We pass by this stall and was curious why is the chicken wing so fat, so we decided to buy to try while waiting for the shuttle train back to Rui Fang.

FAT chicken wing!

2 flavour to choose from. The [ Kimchi Smelly Tofu ],

and [ Fried Rice ].

We didn't go to Qing Tong this time round but for those who are interested, these are some picture which I took last year when I was there.

A older and vintage train station. A lot of wedding couple had the wedding picture there.

You can purchase the wishing bamboo from the shops there, then you will write your wishes on it and hang it somewhere you like. I hang mine there too! Look for mine! ( hint: huge green post box ) Haha!

Cat accompany us waiting for our train at the train station.

Ok... back to this trip. On our way back to Rui Fang and then back to Taipei.

 Music performance by all age at the tunnel.

Bought the tickets back to Taipei but there is still a little bit of time before the train comes so we went opposite to shop in their mini super mart.

Look at those HUGE watermelon!

I wonder what can't they do using hello kitty as their packaging! Haha!

Bought the ' no seat ' ticket back to Taipei because that's the only tickets they have at that timing. If we want the reserves seats ticket we have to wait for another 2 hours which we think its kind of wasting time. Anyway standing for 45 mins is never a problem for retail sales person like us.

 Doggie sleeping soundly at the train station. In Taiwan, nobody will chase the stray dog or stray cats away and this is why I like Taiwan more!

Once we reach Taipei, we went Wu Fen Pu ( 五分铺 ) straight to do some shopping. Wu Fen Pu is well know as their wholesale market. People who do clothing business normally will go there to stock up.

Super cute doggies accompany their owner at work!

Pass by this egglet stall and can't help but stop by to purchase some! The smell is just so not possible to resist. One pack is selling at NT$20 ( = SG$0.80 ) only!

How to go: Hou Shan Pi Station, Exit 1, walk about 5 - 8 mins

You will see a road like this when you walk out of the station, cross the road on your left where you see ' Hi-Life'. Turn to your right after that, walk straight, cross the road and turn to your left and Wu Fen Pu is just there.

After shopping at Wu Fen Pu, we walk over to Rao he Street Night Market for dinner. Lots of yummy food can be found there! It will be good if you empty you stomach before going there!

1st thing to grab is the [ Pepper Bun ] at the very 1st stall! As usual always having long queue!

Pork meat with spring onion.

Over heard someone saying that there is a very nice [ Guan Dong Zhu ] at the 1st right turn to the small ally so we decided to go check it out.

The Guan Dong Zhu is indeed yummy! ( sometime its good to be KPO! Haha! )

Ordered a 1000ml drinks from the bubble tea shop at the end of the ally to fight the warm evening. I guess only Taiwan have 1000ml bubble tea!

Stall with man signature means its famous? Not very sure about this stall but there is a few stall at Rao He night market that was feature on their food tv programme.

Other food I ate in Rao He Night Market before.

This is one of the special stall. They sell cup pasta, its like cup noodle but instead of the normal instant cup noodle, they cook pasta and put in a small bowl so that you can eat while you continue walking.

Many choice of pasta to choose from. Selling small bowl at NT$60 ( = SG$2.5 ) and bigger bowl at NT$70 ( = SG$3 ).

Herbal soup. Yummy!

Smelly Tofu!

Xiao Long Bao!

Oyster pancake. Those who don't eat oyster like me can choose prawn too. The pancake is selling at NT$50 ( = SG$2.10 ). This is one of Taiwan local delight.

My all prawn pancake.

I thought I could only eat this in Thailand but to my surprise they sell it in Taiwan too! But so far I only manage to see it at Rao He night market.
[ Banana + Nutella ]

I LOVE this! Its a big potato, cut open and smash it, add some ingredient of your choice ( can choose a few ) and the best part is when they pour the cheese over! YUMMY!!!

Ok... enough of introducing the food there! Haha!
I went in to a pet shop to buy something for my dog again.

This fluffy doggie got excited when she saw me holding to a pack of dog biscuit! So cute!

How to go : About 10 mins walk from Wu Fen Pu, or Song Shan station, 3-5 mins walk.
