Day 3:
Good morning!
Today starts early as we are heading somewhere a little further!
No time to waste so breakfast on the go!
Can you already guess where we going?!
To be honest this place is not as convenient as the one in Tokyo! The alighting point is far from the main entrance unlike Tokyo, the car park and alighting point is really near to the entrance!
Ok, I'm very sure by seeing this, you will know where we are now!
So again, after another 10mins of walking, we finally see the super looooooong queue to get into the amusement park! Let's time how long do we need to get in!
After queuing for 15mins, finally we see the entrance of Disneyland (but still not our turn to get in...)!
Look at the crowd...
This is my second (and hopefully the last) Disney amusement park for me just this year! Went to Disneysea in Tokyo this year April and hopefully no more Disneyland for me again...
Anyway, we are finally inside! Total time spent from the moment we alight the car till we reach inside took about 1hr 10mins (including all walking, queuing, waiting, pushing by the locals). So, if you are planning to go to the Disneyland, please go early or plan your time wisely.
Did you realise our clothes matches the theme of Disneyland? Haha!
More welfie!
Oh ya, before you go, you can download their apps to see the map of the park and also to do fast pass reservation for your slot to enter some of the place.
I purposely worn my Mickey Mouse top I got from Disneysea to this Disneyland even though I'm not even a fan of Disney! Haha!
The crowd...
I wonder what activity is this?
You can also check the waiting time for different activities at the guest service hub.
First activity! Let's go!
At every entrance, they will show what are the approximated waiting time. I'm questioning myself why I am here when I see 165mins of waiting time for the first activity!
So, the queuing game starts now...
Queuing in China might not be an easy game! Many of them will start to push you out of the queue and start to cut you queue! Some will pretend to be talking on phone like as if their friends are in front, but there are no friends, they just want to cut the queue...
Ok, cut queue is one thing, BUT personally, I felt this is unacceptable! People are just throwing their rubbish on the floor and basically anywhere! Maybe we, being a Singaporean, we cannot accept people littering in our country and also when I'm in Tokyo Disneyland, I didn't see rubbish like that too, so this rubbish is really unacceptable!
Clocked 1hr queuing and we are not sure how far more till our turn so we shall just take picture to kill time!
We are nearrrrrr!
Finally! Total queuing time is 2hr 50mins which means the approximated time giving outside the entrance is not even exaggerate! So if you have only 1 day in the Disneyland, download the app and plan which facility you all want to play. This is one of our planned activities, so we are already prepared for the long waiting time.
This is actually a 4D experience theatre. The seats come with a pocket for your bags so you can enjoy the shows handsfree.
The shows start!
The graphic is actually very clear and real and with the moving of the seats you will really feel like you are inside the graphic.
So basically, I travelled around the world in this few mins time frame! Quite fun!
Out and off we go hunt for lunch!
Going Disneyland is all about popcorn box, isn't it?
Saw someone's Donald Duck's popcorn box! So cute!
Lunch time!
Many tables but also very crowded so most of the table are taken.
Food was edible but I'm sure nobody is going to expect nice food in an amusement park, right?
Lunch done and off we go for the next queuing game! Erm, I mean next activity.
Oops! Haha this Pirate was punish because he did 3 things wrong! 1, cleated while playing mahjong (or card games). 2, Used a rusty Machete as a weapon. 3, Used the captain's hook to play the Accordion.
Anyway, the next queuing game starts!
Ok, the waiting time is not so bad this time round!
Introducing you the crowd after 25min into our queuing time... Haha! Oh ya, and the cutting queue game is still going strong here!
And again, taking a welfie once we reach 1hr into our queuing.
Time check: 1hr 10mins
And it's our turn! After queuing the first one for 2hr 50mins, 1hr 10mins seems nothing to us. Haha!
We didn't get wet inside the pirate activity, but we got wet outside! It starts to rain...
Since it's raining and it is getting heavier, we decided to go to our last adventure!
Simin's favorite character!
We did make reservation for this but since we decided to go earlier, we have to queue again. 70mins is really consider not bad waiting time.
The rain is so heavy that we are all wet while queuing under the shelter! Haha!
Time check: 50mins! The shortest we queue for!
This activity suits kids!
Killing some time in the souvenir store because we couldn't cross over to the other side due to the heavy rain.
Can see how much Simin love Winnie the Pooh?
We quickly start to find our way out when the rain is slightly lighter!
Let's see what is in the Alice in the wonderland maze.
A big maze!
Continue exploring while there is no rain.
We are basically stuck so we decided to grab a drink at Heytea and wait till the rains get lighter or stops before we can reach the exit. We are so near yet so far now...
Look at this lady's umbrella and you will know how strong the wind is outside right now!
Everyone is struggling outside!
Finally, the rain is kinder now, so we decided to quickly find the exit!
They are the well protected one.
My cap is fully soak! Haha!
It's a cold night so we are going to have Shu Da Xia (属大侠), Sichuan hotpot to warm ourselves up!
Operating Hours: not sure...
A very ethnic look restaurant!
Order through the phone. No English menu by the way.
Our pot of all red soup is here! Haha! We order half mala and half tomato. Those who eat mala hotpot should know how Sichuan hotpot's level of spiciness, so we need the tomato soup base to ease the spiciness a little, we call this best of both world!
Fried bun with condense milk dip will never go wrong! You can dip the bun in the soup too!
Self-service sauce station like how Hai Di Lao works.
My to go sauce!
Sesame sauce + chopped red chilli padi + bit of vinegar + bit of soya sauce + sesame
The food is here!
Meat is very fresh, and soup is nice too.
Omg we ordered golden mushroom, and they bring the whole pot here! Haha!
We went straight to check if there is available slot for massage in the hotel before we decide what to do next.
Their menu. Not the cheapest you find in China, but the price is reasonable considering that it is located in a hotel.
They do not have the slot for now, so we booked the 11.30pm slot and we decided to go to the hotel bar to have some drinks while waiting for our massage.
Cheers to our last night in Shanghai!
Time to enjoy our massage!
They serve hot tea and watermelon too!
Using herb to wash our feet first.
Ok, time to close my eyes and relax!
After a good massage, wash up and time to say good night everyone!
Day 4:
Good morning!
Last morning view from this hotel as we are heading to Beijing today!
Walked over to the Jia Jia Tang Bao (佳家汤包) which is near the People's park (上海人民公园) for breakfast! Tang Bao is very similar to Xiao Long Bao, just a different way of folding and thickness of the skin.
Anyway, look at the queue! I thought we are early (9am+) but apparently, we are not...
Operating Hours: 9am - 9.30pm (Monday to Sunday)
Full house inside right now! So, we decided to just buy take away and of course we still need to queue even it's for take away.
While queuing, we saw right opposite Jia Jia Tang Bao, there is Xiao Yang Shen Jian (小杨生煎). Remember I saw this in the River Mall the other day and couldn't try? Yup it's this! We decided to order that as well while waiting in the queue!
Good time management, don't we? Haha
Operating Hours: 8am - 9pm (Monday to Sunday)
Xiao Yang Shen Jian is different to Tang Bao or Xiao Long Bao, it's bigger, rounder without any folding like the other 2, and most importantly it's pan fried (similar way to pan fried gyoza).
Lots of meat! Oh ya be careful when you bite it because the soup inside is hooooottt! The right way to eat is same as Xiao Long Bao, bite a little hole, drink the soup and finish up the dumpling.
Oh yeaaaa! Finally!
While enjoying our Xiao Yang Shen Jian, not forgetting our Jia Jia Tang Bao.
Remember, it's HOT!
That's all for our breakfast? Nahhhh...
We walked over to Taikang Dumpling (泰康汤包馆) for another dumpling! Haha!
I know we sounds crazy but what's coming to Shanghai without trying out different variety of dumpling, right?
So, we order 4 dumpling, 1 dumpling each!
If you are thinking just 1 dumpling each? Isn't it not filling enough? You will know soon!
Tada! Our dumpling is here! It's huge!
Now you know why we can only 1 each right?
How big? Here's the comparison! Haha!
That's Teresa, drinking the soup from the dumpling by the way. Haha!
So, again, we will poke a hole and start to drink the soup first and eat the rest of the dumpling later.
Warning again, the soup is HOT, but dumpling is best eaten when it's hot, just be a little more careful and metal prepare of the hot soup.
Oh wow! A shopping mall for kids?
While walking back to our hotel, saw this very old jewelry shop that looks like those that appear in the old Shanghai movie!
Went back to our hotel, grab our luggage, took a DiDi.
Here we are at the High-Speed Railway station.
I wonder why is there a need to queue just enter into the train station. This reminds me of Disneyland! Haha!
Oh, queue to check ticket before you can go into the station.
Please reach early in case there is long queue and to prevent from missing your train.
Before boarding the train, we still manage to grab a cup of coffee! How can I not get my caffeine fixed right?
Very busy station!
Bye Shanghai!
Our train is here and ready to board!
Time to enjoy the long train journey and my coffee!
Oh ya, if you didn't manage to grab any food or drinks before you board the train, not to worry, you can order food and drinks by scanning this QR code!
It looks like this. Click the menu and you can see the full list of food you can order.
Anyway, this is how it looks if you order. In this case, Teresa ordered a beer just to test out the system.
It will prompt you when will the item will be serve, and here it says the beer will delivery in 30min and if it's the peak hour of dinning, it might take up to 45mins! That's very long wait time for just a drink... So in this case, you should order your food before you get hungry if not you might faint of hunger! Or just buy at the convenience store and eat on the train like us. Haha!
We didn't order any food through the app as we manage to grab a cup noodle at the convenience store because we know that the train does provide hot water dispenser.
Here we are in Beijing! The train journey took about 4.5hrs to 5hrs.
Checking in our hotel, Grand Hyatt Beijing! I must say, this might be the most expensive hotel I have stay throughout my travel life! Haha!
Our room!
Bathroom!
The view outside our window!
Our online loot is here again! Haha!
Some of the item, we order before we reach China and others, we order while we are in Shanghai and just in time to receive it!
Time check: 6.30pm, off we head off for dinner!
Walking to our dinner place.
Located in this mall.
Dinner was at Da Dong (大董烤鸭店), which is just located behind the hotel.
Operating Hours: 11am - 10pm (Monday to Sunday)
Website: http://www.dadongdadong.com/
Took our queue number and there is another 1-2hrs to kill.
So, we went back to the shopping street to see what they have there.
About 1.5hr later, we receive notification that it's our turn soon, so we quickly head back to the restaurant. Once we reach, we see the chef preparing the Peking roasted duck!
What's coming to Beijing without eating the Peking roasted duck right? We should eats which ever food that is famous in the country we visit and that's the whole purpose of travelling isn't it (well... at least for me)?
Not long after, we gotten our table, but the menu is too thick, so I didn't manage to take picture of the menu.
Ok, now I understand why Da Dong is so famous. The food here is not just food but it's an Art piece too!
If you are thinking what so artistic about this plate of cherries, it's actually Foie! I mean well some are really cherries.
Which is which? Haha
So, the staff will come over to explain the food and also do some performance for the Sweet and sour pork rib with sugar powder! This is one of their signature dishes so it's 'must order'.
Some other dish we ordered.
And here comes the highlight of this dinner! The Peking roasted duck! The chef will be here to cut the roasted duck at each table and teach you how to eat it.
Each of us will have a plate of sauce and vegetable for use to wrap the roasted duck.
The common way of eating is wrap it up like this.
But at Da Dong, there is this crispy airy bun shape biscuit(?) that we can "wrap" with the roasted duck!
They served us some collagen soup and it was so good!
And free fruits as dessert! After the cherries, I start to suspect if this is a real grape! Haha!
This restaurant is worth coming! The service, the experience and the food were good!
After a happy meal, off we go somewhere else.
Saw this very nice building while in the car.
Here we are at Tai Koo Li (太古里三里屯) shopping mall.
Operating Hours: 9am - 10pm (Monday to Sunday)
Actually, we just alight at Tai Koo Li but we are walking to somewhere else.
Will be back to do some shopping other day!
Here we are at The Bell x Terrazza Martini Rooftop bar.
Operating Hours: (Permanently closed)
Got our entry ticket and it comes with a glass of drink.
The roof top is full, so we went to sit in the indoor area at the bar counter and we get to see the bar tender doing their magic.
I don't drink alcohol so luckily, they do sell mocktail.
Saw this news before sleep. We are lucky that we went early and avoided the typhoon! I guess the heavy rain we encounter is the sign of typhoon but also now we think the rain is really nothing as compared to a typhoon.
Anyway almost 3am, Good night!
