Peneng 2019 : 4D3N Non Stop Eating Trip in Penang

Day 1 :

Fresh start of the year and of course it's the start of my holiday trip!
Hm... let's start somewhere near... and so I am heading off to Penang for a wedding and also at the same time exploring the place because I actually have not been to Penang before!

It's my first time flying off Changi Airport Terminal 4! We are actually meeting someone at Terminal 2 for a quick bunch so we actually check in early as we know it's kind of complicated to travel from Terminal 4 out to other Terminal as this Terminal is the only Terminal that is not link with the rest.
So from Terminal 4, we need to take the free shuttle bus to Terminal 2.
( for those who want to go to other Terminal, you will need to take the Sky Train from Terminal 2 )

The airport staff stationing at the shuttle bus stop will issue everyone a T4 sticker and we need to show it to the staff at T2 when we wanna come back.

Big and clean bus.

Bus schedule from Terminal 2 back to Terminal 4. Make sure you know what time to come back in order not to miss your flight!

Finish our quick bunch and back to Terminal 2. By the way, the shuttle bus waiting at Terminal 2 looks like a lounge! Nice and big!

Time to go! That's Joyce beside me and Faye beside her!

First thing to do when we reach is to check in our Airbnb! We booked a big apartment for 6 person so let's go in and see how big it is!

Tada! Home for the next 3 night!

Kitchen  area...

Dining area...

Super big and spacious living room! Clean too!

Bathroom at the lower level...

The view from out living room window!

Upper level...

Room 1...

Room 2 with sea view...

Room 3 with sea view too...

Bathroom at the upper level...

Done with checking in our Airbnb and next, walk over to Gurney Paragon ( which is 10 mins walk ) to hunt for out late lunch!

Operating Hours : 10am to 10pm

The mall is quite big with many shops.

Our grab driver recommend us to this food court located at level 5 ( I think? ) to eat the dry chilli pan mee ( hand made noodle ) there.

We all each ordered one of their Signature Dry Chilli Pan Mee.

Rojak for sharing.

And cendol for sharing too as we didn't want to eat too much.

This is one of the famous local snack and biscuit brand but we didn't buy any.

Bought quite a handful of drinks and snacks for tonight!

We had self cook Hai Di Lao hot pot as dinner cum supper!

Not forgetting this as dinner cum supper as well!
Happy tummy, happy people!
Good night!

Day 2 :

Good morning!

Guess where are we going? Yup! Café hopping time! Penang actually have lots of café for us to hop but first, let's try this Coffee Addict for brunch! They have quite a high rating by the way.

Operating Hour : 8am to 6pm ( Wednesday to Monday, Close on Tuesday )

Saw this signboard before we walk in! I see some people complaining about their slow service on google map but I guess if they saw this signboard and yet choose to go in, they should not even complain.

Love the interior of the café! So chill so relax!

Menu all written at the board here.

Wall painting in the café.

Love the "plan" written on the board!

Loving all the quote here!

Hungry but coffee first!

Still the 3 of us and tonight the other 3 will fly in to meet us.

Overall coffee and brunch here is good! Worth coming!

Grab to the next destination and the drivers are very nice to leave some map in their car for tourist.

Here we are at the famous Penang Street Art street! How can we not come to this place when we are in Penang right? Actually I'm the only one who didn't not come here before because it's my first time here. Joyce and Faye came before but they still don't mind ( I hope? ) coming with me again!

Here in Penang Street Art, you can find many 3D drawing on the wall and this is also why this street is famous about all tourist! Let's go check those art work out!

Beside 3D drawing, there is art work using metal and it also looks 3D!

Too hot so gonna grab a drink to cool ourselves down!

Nowadays, it's not easy to get this Nutmeg drinks anymore isn't it?

One of the picture, 'Kids on Bicycle', which is a must take when you are there!

For those who can understand mandarin will wonder why this restaurant name are like that...

I use to use this when I'm baby!

Time to rest after walking around for quite awhile. Walked in to ca Cart Café to kill the heat a little bit!

Operating Hours : 11pm - 4pm, 6.30pm to 10pm ( Monday to Thursday, closed on Wednesday )
11pm - 4pm, 6.30 to 1am ( Friday )
12pm - 4pm, 6.30pm to 1am ( Saturday and Sunday )

Vintage concept café I assume?

Wow... this menu remind me of my school days!

Cold juice came into rescue for the hot weather!

Photo taking continues...

Here's another picture, 'Boy on a Motorbike' that is a must to take picture with!

Ice cream time!

Just beside the ice cream shop, there is the 'Boy on Chair' painting which is also another famous one.

Since it's a eating non stop trip so how can we stop out mission right? So it's dessert time! 92 Armenian is one of the famous place here at the Penang Art Street for their Bird's Nest delicacy.

Operating Hours : 11am to 9pm

Every dessert here are made using Bird's Nest!

Spoilt for choice so 3 of us choose 4 dessert... Overall taste quite good, but personally I still prefer to eat Bird's Nest as how it was instead of the creative version.

Again we found another famous painting 'Kids standing on Swing'!

Beside the 'Kids standing on swing', there is another painting, 'Susu Soya'.

In between 'Kids standing on swing' and 'Susu Soya', there is actually a old warehouse and inside there is a flea market.

This nice and friendly lady here actually sells souvenir but she actually offer to help us take pictures and also taught us where to stand to get a perfect picture!

They lady is so nice that we decided to get magnet from her!

Last famous painting, 'Kids behind the window bar'!

While taking our last picture, it suddenly pours heavily! Good thing that we taken all the picture we wanted before this sudden rain!

Next destination, massage time! Saw good review of this Imperial Thai Massage and we decided to give it a try.

Operating Hours : 12.30pm - 1.30am ( Friday to Monday )
1.30pm - 1.30am ( Tuesday to Thursday )

Price are at a higher range so really hope the massage is good!

Wash feet area is so pretty!

Clean place!

Massage is actually good!

After a good massage, it's dinner time! We are meeting the rest of the people at Pulau Tikus Hawker Center for dinner.

Operating Hours : 4pm to 10pm ( Monday to Sunday )

We are having their famous lok lok for dinner! Look at the amount of food! It's not that we order but it was place there so we just pick what we want, dip into the boiling soup in the middle to cook and eat once it's cooked! Leave those you didn't want on the table and those that is finish, they will replenish.

From 3 people to 7 people and later at night there will be more coming. Due to work, all of us have to reach at different day and time.

Additional dish from other stall. This Cha Kway Tiao is good!

So how they know how many lok lok we eat? It's by counting the satay stick we have in total! This uncle counting skill is beyond 100 level! Haha! If you get a chance to eat here and met this uncle, remember to listen how he count and also video down! Haha! Anyway we ate a lot but the price is so so so cheap!

After dinner, we have nothing else to do, so we randomly travel far to Batu Ferringhi for their night market. It is actually quite far but since the Grab is cheap and there is no other activity around as malls and shops are close, so we thought it's fine to travel.

Operating Hours : 5.30pm to 12.30am ( Monday  to Sunday )

And so we ended our day chilling at the Starbucks there and is actually by the sea!

A really big Starbucks!

They sell other type of merchandise like clothes! Never seen a Starbucks selling those before ( normally only mugs and tumbler ).

This Starbucks is famous because it's by the sea but too bad it's late, we can't see any sea view while chilling.

Coffee time!

Here comes another 3 people that just arrive! And Evelyn ( the lady in strips ) was story telling us how she missed her flight here! Haha! We had a good entertaining time by her!

And while waiting for us to go back apartment from Batu Ferrunghi, the 3 of them went for dinner and also help us to da bao ( take away ) supper! Cha Kway Tiao again! Haha!

Anyway, Evelyn's story telling ended around 4am and good night!

Day 3 :

Good morning! It's time for some local breakfast! This Bee Hwa café is recommended by our first Grab driver that drove us from airport to our apartment.

Operating Hours : 7am to 3pm ( Monday to Saturday, Closed on Sunday )

Very simple and old school café.

The biggest group in the café!

Cha Kway Tiao again! Haha!

White curry mee is a must to try when you are in Penang!

After mixing the chilli, the white curry mee will look like this.

After breakfast, it's again coffee time! Remember this is a eating non stop trip? Yup! That's our motto of this trip! Café hop to Coffee Lane now!

Operating Hours : 8am to 8pm ( Sunday to Thursday )
8am to 10pm ( Friday and Saturday )

2 Level in the café.

Coffee bean for sale too!

A good rang of coffee bean choice!

Here comes our coffee!

I order blue mountain and the barista ( cum boss I think? ) told me it's an expensive coffee bean so I shall try it in both hot and cold coffee the taste the difference. What a nice coffee experience!

My cold blue mountain! I actually like it in both hot and cold!

They sell some cakes and dessert there too. But as I'm not a cake lover so my main focus is only on the coffee!

Not sure what it is, they say is some local dessert so we just order to try.

Got myself some coffee powder to bring back home!

Heading into a capsule hotel... WAIT! What?! Capsule hotel? For?

For this for sure! We are all attracted by this signboard that is place outside the door of Lavish Capsule Hotel. How can we not have 60mins massage plus movie for just RM48 ( SG$16 ) right?

Big movie screen with big seat!

Choosing our movie first!

The massage is SO GOOD! Totally worth our RM48!

From Lavish Hotel, we decided to walk to Penang road for the famous chendol and pass by the Pasar Chowrasta to shop for some local snacks.

Operating Hours : 6.30am to 6pm

Here we are at the Penang Road!

Basically there is 2 Chendol stall here and both are with long queue and located at the entrance of the road.. 1 which is just underneath this big wall painting, the Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul ( Chendol )!

Operating Hours : 10.30am to 7pm ( Monday to Friday )
10am to 7pm ( Saturday and Sunday )

We wanted to compare both Chendol stall so we only ordered 1 bowl to share among us.

Here's another stall which is just opposite call Penang Road Famous Chendol Ais Kachang

Operating Hours : 9am to 7pm ( Monday to Sunday )

Conclusion on both Chendol is 1 is more to the sweet side, 1 is more to the salty side. I'm not a sweet tooth person but I find it weird that Chendol taste salty too. I personally prefer the Teochew Chendol ( sweet one ) more. ( Maybe because I'm Teochew? Haha! ) If you are there, I recommend to try both as they taste totally different.

Eating continues after the Chendol! Stop by Ah Boy's stall for some fried banana and others.

Everything is so good! Yummy!

Time to head back and prepare ourselves for the wedding dinner!

Dinner time! Ok I mean wedding dinner time!

Beautiful bride! She is one of the girl who travel with me to Coron, Philippines before! Congrats to my dearest Alex!

After wedding, KTV time! Some of them still need to leave Penang super early but yet we still wants to go for second round! Not easy to gather overseas in such a big group so we have to make use all the time we have here right?

Before anything, group photo first!

KTV ended very late and time to say good night!

Day 4 :

Woke up early to help to open the door because some of them are already leaving and when I'm heading back to bed, I saw that the sun is rising soon so I put my phone on times lapse mode and went back to sleep...

So here's what my times lapse have taken...

Good morning again! Today will be our last day in Penang so it will be our last local breakfast here! Sin Seow Fong Lye café ( 小逢莱茶室 ) seems to be quite popular too!

I think this Cha Kway Ka ( 炒果角 ) can only be found in Penang? It's a mixture of Cha Kway Tiao and Singapore carrot cake!

Beside the Cha Kway Ka, we order some other food from the eatery.

Chicken porridge is also one of the traditional breakfast in Singapore and Malaysia! We wanted to try many other food so we order just 1 bowl of porridge for sharing.

Traditional Kaya butter toast bread and soft boil egg from coffee shop or eatery like this is what we use to eat when we are young and that's before Toast Box or Ya Kun are famous.

So this is the Cha Kway Ka! Initially we order 1 plate to share because we order other food BUT we failed to share... after the first plate, we decided to order 2 more plate! Haha!

Lastly, Nasi Lemak for sharing!

So traditional, so good! We actually wanted to try more food but too bad most of the food stall there is closed after finish selling all their food. My advice is to reach as early as you can to try all the food!

Ok time for some really last minute shopping at Tean Ean Local Products for some local snacks to bring back home and work. We didn't buy the more famous brand, Ban Heang because Joyce tried Tean Ean biscuit once and thought that it taste better then Ban Heang so we decided to shop here. This place is also near our apartment! So once we finish shopping and went back to apartment to grab our luggage.

Operating Hours : 9am to 6pm ( Monday to Sunday )

After check out our hotel, grab our luggage and straight to Lavish Hotel again! Haha not to check in hotel but to do one last massage! If we make as effort to come again you should know that it is because it's good right?

We choose 2 hour massage and this masseur is like THE BEST! Omg I will miss this massage session for sure! I'm definitely coming back to her if ever I had a chance to come Penang again!

Last dinner in Penang and it's the KFC at airport because people said that KFC in Malaysia is tastier!

Time to say put a stop to our non stop eating trip in Penang! Diet starting tomorrow! Fighting!

Look at this beautiful long and seems endless bridge and the sun set!

Ok Bye and stay tune to my next trip!
