Day 3:
Good morning! The morning starts with the charms from the church.
Walking to the Château de Gruyères which is just 2 mins walk from our hotel before we check out.
This is the Château de Gruyères (a.k.a Castle of Gruyères).
Operating Hours: 9am - 6pm (Monday to Sunday)
The view from the castle!
Free entry using Swiss Travel Pass!
If you do not have the Swiss Travel Pass, here is the price (taken from their website) to enter the castle.
Not crowded which we appreciate!
Look at the beautiful autumn leaf.
The kitchen in the olden days.
The view from the window. But the window grill looks kind of sad, like prison.
When the castle is not crowded, we get to take picture without photobombed! That's the benefit of travelling during non peak season.
Very nice detail!
The wall painting shows how the battle of Morat looks like.
The Corot Room.
Looking down the garden from the top.
In the music room.
View from another window.
The Medallion Room.
Hand painting on the ceiling!
A room for the soldiers to gather if I didn't remember wrongly.
Am I the only one who thinks these are very oriental design?
And we all know what is this for.
I wonder how old are these cow bell!
End of our castle tour!
Last picture before we leave the castle because it starts raining again!
Went in the HR Giger Museum but we didn't pay to go in so we walk around to see the merch.
Operating Hours: 10am - 6pm (Monday to Friday)
10am - 6.30pm (Saturday & Sunday)
Website: https://www.hrgigermuseum.com/en/
Mic stand!
This watch is crazy (price too)!
Visiting souvenir shops for the last time!
Remember the stones that attract my attending on the first night? According to the lady, the stone will change colour when it contact with water and it true! It's raining now therefore all the stones changes colour! So cool!
How I wish I can bring this owl home! (but it's heavy...)
Is that a rainbow at the corner?
Last look of this quiet little town before we say goodbye to Gruyères!
Checked out our hotel and enjoy a cup of coffee at the hotel restaurant while waiting for the bus 260 to arrive.
Look what came to say goodbye to us when we reach the Gruyères train station?!
This have to be the biggest and closest rainbow I ever seen in my life!
The rainbow looks like it went right into this house!
Yup, I know... I just can't get enough of the beautiful rainbow!
Heading to Gstaad and we will be taking this route.
We missed the train because we waited at the wrong platform so we need to wait for another hour for the next train.
Finally train is here!
Off we go!
Need to change to another train at Montbovon station.
Raining and very cold outside so we are hiding in the waiting room with the locals while waiting for our next train.
We will be taking the Golden Pass Express train which is a panoramic window view in the train.
Raining ruin the window and view outside but still manage to capture the view outside!
There is charging point in the train so you can charge your phone in the train!
Reached the second town, Gstaad, where we will be staying for the next 2 nights!
Train station location: Güterstrasse, 3780 Saanen, Switzerland
Gtsaad is a total different vibe as compared to Gruyères.
Checking our Airbnb first! Just a few mins walk from the train station.
Check out the Airbnb here: https://www.airbnb.com.sg/rooms/24744729?source_impression_id=p3_1747056297_P3_BBZZynGNx5Zda
Tada! Our small and cozy house for the next 2 nights.
Our small kitchen.
Bedroom + Living room + Dinning area all in 1 glance.
Big wardrobe.
Small dining table
Bathroom.
The view outside our window (but the chair belongs to the neighbor).
The moment we check in our Airbnb, we hear another charm from the nearby church from our window.
Off to explore the town!
Saw a group of kids playing hockey so we stop by to watch the competition for a short while.
In Gstaad, you can enjoy all the luxury shopping here because you can find most of the luxury brands here!
It's a Sunday, so basically all the shops are close so we went around the town to do window shopping.
Souvenir shops are still open so we can only shop in different souvenir shop! Haha!
Since there is nothing much to shop, we went back to cook a super late lunch and rest for a while before our dinner reservation.
We cook 1 pack of noodle to share because we will be having dinner in 2hrs time! Haha!
Walking to our dinner place!
Specially make a reservation at this cute little restaurant call Le Petit Chalet, 1 month before we reach Switzerland.
Operating Hours: 12pm - 2pm, 6pm - 9pm (Friday to Monday)
Closed (Tuesday to Thursday)
Email for reservation: info@bellevue-gstaad.ch
Now you know why do we need reservation? The indoor seats is so limited!
There is only 1 staff who helps taking order, making simple food and serving us for the whole place. We are lucky that nobody is here yet so the staff only help us until the other guest arrive.
Local soft drink? I kind of like the taste!
Ordered a salad to share.
And ordered the traditional Swiss food, Raclette (amount serve by how many pax we have). Raclette is heating cheese and scraping off the melted cheese and eat with steam potato or bread. I am so loving this! So yummy!
Already check out their menu before we made the reservation so the amount on the bill are expected.
Sometime you just need to pay more for nice food, good ambiance and good experience right? (although our heart still bleed a little... Haha!)
They can really play ya? From the moment we reach till now the game is still going on!
Anyway, head back our Airbnb to rest.
Good night!
Day 4:
Good morning!
Instant porridge for breakfast! This is how you save money while travelling in an expensive country.
Raining again...
If you are travelling in November, remember to bring umbrella or raincoat!
Initiatlly, our plan is to go to the Glacier 3000 but it due to the rain, it is not safe to open to public so we have to change our plan. Praying for a better weather tomorrow morning so at least we can still visit before we leave Gstaad!
Check their live situation for Glacier 3000 here: https://www.glacier3000.ch/en
So sad! Everything is close!
Since we got nothing much to do in this town, we decided to relax and have some tea at this place call Cappuccino.
Operating Hours: Unknown
Cute doggy came in to enjoy tea time with his owner.
Good and well behave dog!
The coffee and tea menu.
See how well behave is he!
Adding a crepes to go with our tea.
To be honest the price for the pot of tea is not too bad!
Of course when you are at a touristy area, you can expect things/food to be cheap right?
After tea time, went to Coop to grab some ingredient for tonight's home cook dinner.
Operating Hours: 8am - 7pm (Monday to Thursday)
8am - 8pm (Friday)
8am - 5pm (Saturday)
Closed (Sunday)
Remember the "1 garlic policy" in New Zealand? Yup, it works the same here too because it's more practical to buy 1 since we will not be staying here for long and we just need for 1 dinner.
My favorite button mushroom!
We didn't buy but I wonder how it taste!
Grab our breakfast for tomorrow too.
Found another town nearby so we decided to take bus 183 there from the bus stop at the Gstaad train station.
Bus stop location: 3780 Saanen, Switzerland
Here we are at Saani town which is just next to Gstaad.
Quite a quiet town too, I assume it's just because we are here at the non peak season.
Look at these huge antique cow bells!
We were standing outside this shop call La Vache Bleue to admire the antique cow bells and the shop owner who were doing some work outside to shop, invite us in to have a look even though the shop is not even open that day.
Operating Hours: 10am - 5pm (Thursday & Saturday)
10am - 6pm (Friday)
There is so many interesting item inside! Many of them are second hand vintage item. The shop owner were so friendly that we spend some time chit chatting with him.
There is vintage luxury brand bags and even clothes!
Look! I found a Hermes cardigan!
And Burberry too.
Most of the shops and restaurant are not open so we just walk around the town to enjoy the architect.
Saw a little table selling horseshoe at 10CHF (=SGD15.20) and Wen decided to get 1 as souvenir. Nobody there to attend to these horseshoe so it's purely by honesty!
Very happy with her horseshoe.
Pass by Tissot, one of the well know Swiss manufacture watch brand! It's not open but I'm pretty much sure that it will be cheaper to purchase there as compare to Singapore.
The street lamp is like the lamp you will find at home, so cute!
More shops located nearby the tourist center are open.
What a cool bench, it's made of skis!
Continue our window shopping!
Look how pretty is these pieces!
Nice restaurant but not open.
Can you spot a good boy/girl sitting there?
Seems like there is many bookstore here!
Suddenly saw a flock of bird flying above the church and it looks like some horror movie scene!
The boss at La Vache Bleue actually recommended this 16 Art Bar Restaurant for a drink and dinner but when we reach, they are still preparing to open so we didn't go in. I can see the ambiance is very chill and nice.
Saw a super big wine bottle display outside the 16 Art Bar Restaurant but of course those are empty bottles.
Walked to the Saanen train station where our bus stop is located at too.
Still got a long waiting time for our bus so we went around the train station to take pictures.
Here we are at the Saanen Bridge which is located next to the train station.
This Saanen Bridge appear in some movie?
Beside taking bus, we can also take train from Saanen back to Gstaad too but the waiting time is longer.
Waiting for our bus at the bus stop and of course we have to take picture too since we got nothing else to do! Haha!
Bus stop location: 3792 Saanen, Switzerland
Back to Gstaad and saw a supermarket next to Gstaad train station so we decided to go in and have a look.
Operating Hours: 7.30am - 12.30pm, 1.30pm - 6.30pm (Monday to Friday)
8am - 4pm (Saturday)
Closed (Sunday)
Another good boy/girl sitting outside waiting for it's owner.
Why is the egg so colourful? According to the google translate, it's cooked and coloured so I assume coloured eggs means it hard boiled egg?
Back to Airbnb and cooked our dinner!
My best dish, button mushroom!
Never try Christmas Tea before so bought a box to try!
First sip, I taste a very strong Cinnamon/herb taste but after a few more sip, it's actually nice, very Christmas scents.
After a nice cup of tea, time to sleep! Good night!
